Dunfermline's Liberal Democrat Councillors James Calder (Dunfermline South) and Aude Boubaker-Calder (Dunfermline Central) have welcomed the granting of Official City Status for Dunfermline as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
Councillor Calder has said, "As Scotland's ancient capital with a great heritage, the honour of official city status is richly deserved by Dunfermline.
"With both the history as well as being one of Scotland's foremost settlements in recent years, I always felt as though our bid had the edge.
"I want to congratulate the team behind our bid on a job well done. This will give everyone in Dunfermline and the wider area a much-needed boost."
Councillor Boubaker-Calder added, "This is wonderful news, and I am so happy to hear about it.
"Dunfermline has so much to offer, and as Scotland's newest official city, this shows the potential of Dunfermline.
"I Hope this status can have a great economic impact and bring more people including tourists to our wonderful city."
